Discovery Park is one of my favorite parks in Gilbert and it is located near San Tan Village Mall and the 202 Freeway. It offers fishing lakes that include game fish such as bass, sunfish, bluegill, and catfish.
Discovery park has 5 multi-use fields, sand volleyball pits, 2 fishing ponds, a playground, basketball courts, 8 picnic ramadas with power BBQ grills, and a small rock climbing wall. The park opened in 2006. It includes 48 acres.
I think it is very cool that Discovery park was named because when they were building it they discovered fossils of a Columbian Mammoth. The city had a naming contest and the mammoth was known as Tuskers. You can actually go to the Southeast Regional Library in Gilbert to see exact replicas of the fossils.
